Swansea is 75 minutes from the start of the freeway so Munmorah and the ones on Lake Macquarie [also Blacksmiths and Redhead] would all be well under 2 hrs from Wahroongah

got a 4WD? Stockton Beach is pretty good and you can chuck the beach gear out for some Australian Salmon..

The basin at pittwater is a good one if you want a
short camp over the grounds are good
and you get squid at night at the wharf, also jew
and during the day you get bream ,trevally, salmon,
taylor, and also kings pass through there as well
on a regular basis at this time of year.
You park at the ferry wharf at little palm beach
and cross by ferry to the basin. Can remember how much it costs
but we paid under $20 a night for the ferry ride and the camp site
things may have changed a bit since then.
You have showers and toilets there and are well maintained as a park
ranger lives there and the family take care of it.

They have tent site there and its nice and quiet at this time of year.

Yes for a "quickie" holiday close to home The Basin is good. All the amenities and clean...and the occassional fish at your door step.

yes!!! the basin, we wanted to go there on our 2nd trip

but i don't think we will be taking the ferry, im not comfortable with parking my car somewhere overnight, come back with broken windows (its happened before)

so we might drive into the campsite if i remember correctly u're allowed to?

jewman; thanks for the motivation! now i know theres fish/squid, the basin has won brownie points!

lol

there's no car access to the campsite, you could drive to west head and hike in but that's a fair walk uphill on the way back and you'd still have to leave your car there

you wont find many places safer than Palm Beach for overnight car parking... it's only residents around there and they're mostly multi millionaires with no window smashing habits...

oh ur right too.. thats strange i thought u could drive in or park near by.....
hmm is there any other camp sites that we can park the car near by and camp like @ green patch - Jervis Bay?

last camp trip we hiked garie beach all the way to north era lol

so our next trip we'd rather be near the car

You can drive into the Basin if you work for NPWS like I do :bootyshake::bootyshake:

You could try Bonnie Vale at Bundeena mate, run and maintained by Parks and you can drive to your site and tight on the water

The lagoon there holds some good fish

Plenty, but if you are winging it you got to watch out for the big ugly bastards, particularly early in the morning :p

Daniel,

Go up to Killcare Beach and camp in the Putty Reserve-
I havent camped there personally but it is one of my favourite Beach Fishing Haunts.
One end you got Killcare and the other is Putty Beach
The camping ground has good full amenities and has an under cover marquee and wood BBQ's.
I think there is a small fee to use the reserve and you can drive right in, no farking around leaving your car elsewhere and hoping it doesnt get broken unto...
its just outside of Woy Woy so it is only max 1.25 hours away from sydney

Anyways, as it is one of my fav fishing spots I'll PM you next time am going (gotta fish tides up there being at the mouth to Broken Bay- Jewman says is a great Jew place- I have caught all sorts of stuff from Witing, Bream, Trevally, Taylor, Salmon, Flatties and Shark, and if you fish the stones you can get Pike, Groper, Snapper and Drummer)

Its a great place and the good thing is you arent too far from civilization if you want to go out or go to the pub or grab some takeaway.

I reckon it has the best sunsets in Sydney and it really chilled, no crowds unless the fish are biting but then it is standing room only and very crowded (up to 30 or 40 fishos all standing within 5m of each other can be a bit hectic though)

Let me know if you are interested
