Hey Guys,
I am organising a trip to New Caledonia for 24 Jan to 31 Jan 2010. The purpose of the trip will be mainly popper fishing with main target species being GT, as well as miscellaneous species that will hit a popper such as spanish mackerel, red bass and coral trout.
Hopefully we will also get a chance at YFT on poppers.
It will also be part of the plan to jig for various reef species and dogtooth tuna.
Below is the general description and itinerary from the organiser/booking agency
"Thankyou for your enquiry into our New Caledonia GT Sportfishing Adventures. This adventure offers anglers a variety of fishing options and the opportunity to stay at 2 separate locations, La Foa and Bourail, which are north of Noumea on the remote west coast. The fishing grounds are located within easy access of your accommodation and you will soon find yourself within one of the most spectacular locations in the Pacific. Within the lagoon there are small reef systems, atolls, islands, wrecks and cays, as well as a host of other locations offering a wide range of sportsfishing options. Around the reef openings, fringes and bommies are bruiser GTs and other tackle-crunching heavyweights, making the location one of the fishiest in the South Pacific.
While there are a huge variety of sport fish on offer, New Caledonia is really renowned for it’s monster GT’s. It’s literally difficult to encounter GT’s under 20kg with most in the 20-40kg range. Anglers have regularly landed 50+kg fish with the largest caught so far coming in at 66kg. The GT fishing is good year round although peak season for numbers is between November and May. In the cooler waters over winter the surface fishing slows slightly, however the fish caught during this time tend to be very big and even more of a handful than warm water GTs. Other light tackle targets include queenfish, bluefin trevally, long nose emperor, rosy jobfish, small tuna’s and a host of other species. Larger pelagics that frequent the waters include spanish mackerel, wahoo, dogtooth tuna and yellowfin tuna. On the jigs there are amberjack, dogtooth tuna, grouper, red bass, coral trout, green jobfish and rusty jobfish, just to name a few.
Accommodation is based in oceanfront cabins at the Ouano Lodge, and in a newly built traditional style fare at the Nekweta Lodge. Your guide is an expert angler and will put you onto some top fish, fishing out of a 25ft centre console set up for popper casting and these waters. Top of the range casting gear (Illex rods, Saltiga reels) and quality lures (Orion etc) are available for clients to use, so you don’t have to worry if you don’t wish to supply all your own equipment. This all inclusive adventure offers excellent value to anglers, our are attached for your consideration.
Dates I’d be looking at will be in on the Sat 24th and fishing Monday to Friday, fly out on Sat the 30th.
Day 1
Arrive at Tontouta airport. You will be met at the airport and transferred to the Ouano Resort about 100km north of Noumea on New Caledonia’s west coast. Enjoy dinner and a few ales before settling in for the evening.
Fishing Days 2 - 4, Ouano Lodge
After your initial briefing from skipper you will board your vessel and commence your adventure. Within minutes you’ll be fishing around the atolls, lagoons, reef passages, bommies and drop offs found in this spectacular location. Your main targets each day will include monster GTs, coral trout, red bass, spanish mackerel, bluefin trevally, amberjack aswell as speedy wahoo, dogtooth tuna, yellowfin tuna and jobfish. Billfish are also common targets along the reef’s edge and provide loads of fun on casting, trolling or fly tackle. Each afternoon you will return to Ouano Resort to enjoy a few well-earned ales before dinner.
Fishing Days 5 - 6, Nekweta Lodge
On the afternoon of your 3rd fishing day you will be transferred from your location to Nekweta Lodge, slightly further north in Bourail, where you will spend 2 further days fishing and 3 nights accommodation. This gives anglers a variety of locations to experience and is a great option to include within a trip.
Final Day
After breakfast, a transfer will be provided from your resort to Tontouta airport for your return flight."
Here is some further info, including videos, of the action we can expect

As you can see it will be an awesome trip. Considering it includes everything except airfares, I think the pricing is exceptional value at $3,000 plus airfares (which I think are about $700 return ex Sydney).
Can anyone who is seriously interested please contact me via PM asap. I have one pretty firm that I am just awaiting final confirmation of, so at present there is likely one vacant spot and I would like to confirm the booking and pay deposit, as well as book airfares, very shortly.
