Hey Alex, You should be able to organise a lift with one of the other anglers or with someone from 'team ambition'. Failing that there is quite a reliable bus service everyday too and from the location. Hope you get a shot, especially after dropping your big tuna on jig, A.T.
Striped marlin on the 10kg flick stick - let's do it! rofl

Hey Rob
Put me down for a spot
I'll be there for 2 weeks in January but a bash at a beakie with Ivan would be good
Paul
What kind of fishing will we be doing? Obviously trolling for marlin, but anything else if they're not around? Kings? Dollies?
Robbie.

Cheapppppp!
Damn right! But Ivan wants to look after the SA folks.

Alex,
The main aim is to get people onto Marlin, there will be Dollies about in the same area. As for the Kings, All mark is about 30 miles (ish) North of Port and the main fishing grounds are 25miles south east so kings are unlikely.

Who'll be deckying? You or Adam?
What is the best method for marlin up there? Trolling or livebaiting? Or does it depend on the conditions?
I'm just wondering what to expect if I decide to head up with you guys.
Bashir

Alex livebaiting is the most common and successful method up there. The place holds insane amounts of bait at times so the fish are very concentrated so livebaits outfish the lures in a big way most of the time. A lot of marlin get caught on lures in the mornings, why - probably because most people will set a spread until they find bait. Every year there are always a couple of boats that are anti livebait that troll around pulling lures all day for nothing where as other boats might see 10+ on baits.
djmac
07-12-2009, 05:45 PM
and skipbaiting :)
I might have to spend a bit of time winding right handed in preparation (so I'm not completely retarded when it comes to switching over from left to right hand wind with those big Tiagra's and TLD's).

Hey Alex, You can catch those fish on a saltiga or stella as well. With the Tiagra/black majic gear, you can fight the fish with the whole body. As for method, we tend to do a fair bit of livebaiting and skipbaiting when we are amongst the slimeys or stripeys. Switchbaiting works well too. Depends what's going on. Lures are great when travelling because you can go a bit faster. As for deckhands, it will be one of the cheerful and informative souls, reluctantly spending time away from their loving family's, from 'team ambition'. A.T.
Thanks for the info Adam. Unfortunately I don't/won't have a big Stella or Saltiga, but I'm sure I'll manage if I get the opportunity to fight a marlin on proper game gear.
99% sure I can make it for the weekend.

Sorry to correct you Robbie but if things are quiet or we are in the area we will certainly have a shot at bottom fishing around Allmark for Kings and other assorted Oogligoogs.

:D
Robbie,
yes I got your PM, was going to reply tonight but I jsut found out today my work wont be renewing my contract so effectively as of the 22nd Jan will be unemployed and looks like cannot make it :violent2:
I have spoken to my Mrs who said if I am out of work I cannot go away for the weekend due to her not working, lol
Sorry mate just found out today so am frantically looking for another job to fill that void, but the market is still slow ATM for IT Engineers, am expecting to have to forfeit my spot even though I really dont want to.
I reckon give it to Kiwi instead as my uncertainty with work likely to put me behind the 8-ball and dont want to fruck anyone around.
When I have confirmed work again for that period and I can afford the expense I will get a crew together for a separate charter with Ivan out of Sydney- unless something changes between now and Xmas (which I doubt) then its a no from me only due to circumstances beyond my control.
Mate am SPEWING cannot make it but thats how its is when you are a contractor workin for large companies- they can get rid of you in a flash and there isnt anything I can do to avoid it- its set in stone now.
Sorry :(
So we need two more people? Comoooooooooooooon.

Hey Robbie my side of the direct deposit will be done tonight. Sorry for the delay - a fair bit of stuff's been going on over here.
Sorry guys I have had a dead computer and money to go but now have a funeral to go to. I am probably not the best company at the moment anyway.
Sorry but if another one comes along the money is in a fishing fund waiting to be spent.

Hi Alex, have you got a lift yet? Give me a ring on 0417 171 494. I am planning on driving up with one of the guys from my work, who is also going on the trip. I am not sure of what time we are supposed to be there, when to pay balance of money or when boats leave. I have a roof rack, but no rod holder/case to put rods on. Will try and get a jarvis walker tube rod holder and strap it on. Cars a nice jag xj8, so sorry can't fit any rods inside. Ian

No drama Mate,
You can come up with Daniel and I (not as nice as the Jag though) Just a Toyota Prado Grande ...
But you will have to put up with:
Rod Holders, leather interior, climate zone control rear and back, adjustable suspension soft to sport also adjustable height (depending on how much fishing gear we bring up), centre console fridge and in dash DVD player for our Marlin DVD's on the way up, plenty of storage etc etc etc ...
but you may want to go in the jag ...:dontknow::dontknow::dontknow:

Steggs I'll take you up on that! You had me at rod holders (does that sound gay? nah). rofl

Ian,
Accommodation is booked for the Friday and Saturday nights so it is up to you guys when you arrive, Friday or early Saturday, work it around your personal commitments.:)
You can pay the balance to Ivan any time before the boat leaves for the first days fishing on Saturday morning.
Everyone should be at the boat by 7am for a 7.30 kick off.
