Hi guys,

ive been trying to look for a good place to camp. been asking around and doing a bit of an internet search, not much coming up that were are looking for so if anyone as any good ideas please pass them on.

only thing we are looking for is that we can camp on the beach and permitted to have a camp fire. we dont really care about facilities as we are only going for 1 or 2 nights. no 4wd so maybe some thing bit more easily accessible as well. anything up too about 4hrs outside of sydney would be nice.

thanks fellas

is it true that it is illegal to pitch a tent on the beach and camp for a couple nights?

Stockton about it if you have a 4wd

generally national parks control the beaches dont they, they assume camping means you shittingin the sand dunes and leaving it for others to find later

if you camp on stockton you have to have a portable toilet

Stockton is probably the only place that fits the bill within the distance you are willing tro travel.

If you intend driving or camping on the beach you'll need permits though and these can be picked up from service stations on the way between Newcastle and Anna Bay.

Here's all the info

I go up there quite often and have an annual pass for beach access.

Edit: Just noticed that page hasnt been updated for a while, the prices have gone up.

When it comes to camping on the beach you are very limited, maybe near the beach would be a better option.

There are dozens of places that jump out, some within an hour of Syd, some 4 + hours, you have left the spectrum wide open.

1. Umina Beach Caravan Camping Ground (1.5 Hours) you are on the beach, not cheap tho.
2. Patonga (just around the corner) same as above
3. The Basin, get the ferry across, great place - travel time same as above - fantastic HIGHLY RATED !!!! HAVE A BALL - GREAT FOR KIDS
4. Down in the National Park, places like Garie and little Garrie - any closer to the beach you'd drown
5. Stockton camp ground - fantastic, walk over the hill to the beach
6. Fraser Island - you can be there in around 4 hours including transfers with Fraser Coast Tours.rofl

Good luck - get amongst it and have a hoot....

How far do you want to travel? And it'l be hard to camp on the beach with no 4wd, unless you want to lug all your crap and walk it in! Point Plomer is a pretty sweet place, you dont need a 4wd, heaps good facilities and you are pretty much on the beach... they let you have fires as well and is about 5 hours from syd. Highly recomended!
