View Full Version : Spin reels - 4000 size
Hi guys
There are so many reels to choose from in this size I'm finding it a bit difficult to work out which ones a better quality and better value.
A couple of Daiwa's that I like the look of are the Freams, and Capricon CA. There's only about $20 difference in the price at Campbells. The capricorn has a spare spool, which is a plus.
I'm looking to spend around $150 - $200. Can anybody give me some advice of which reels to stay away from and also some of the standout reels in this price bracket?
Tim
EDIT: Oops, I meant to put this in the tackle fest section. Feel free to move it mods.

i will second dat
top reel (made in japan) for your price range
but... how long you wanting to give it???
i would recommend getting a twin power 4000
i got mine at st marys tackle for $310 (credit card) or $305 (cash)
much betta than the symetre 4000 for only an extra $100-ish :hellyeah: :hellyeah: :hellyeah:

I really depends on what you are going to be using the reel for.
I would suggest saving a couple of dollars more and get the Daiwa Capricorn 4500J. I have seen these reels for below $260 and if pushed they are available for around the $230-$250 mark and they are a far better reel than most other 4000 sized reels on the market.
You can troll, jog, bottom bash, esturay fish and beach fish with this reel due to its light weight construction ( for a 4000 size reel ) and you get a free spool and the spool holds a hell of a lot of line. The drag is awsome and can easily dispatch of bigger fish.
I own one and I can gaurantee you should have a look at this reel.

i do stand corrected :D
i have no problems recommending a symetre

twin power is fluid driven not grease
see what ur budget allows and stick to it
i learnt the hard way

Guys...You need to remember that a Shimano 4000 size reels is not really comparative to a Daiwa 4000 sized reel.
Shimano 4000=Daiwa 3000 or there abouts.
Daiwa 4000= Shimano 6000.

You won't find a tougher spin reel for the money.

Well I've picked a reel. Thanks for the suggestions guys, but I've gone different altogether.
I decided that the 4000 daiwa's were going to be too big after talking to a couple of people, and I've opted for a Team Daiwa "Tierra" 3000. I believe it's a new reel in the range and it looks pretty good on paper and should do the job nicely.

Mate thats a sweet little reel you have now.
Just one word of warning though. Make sure you was your reel down after every use and buy some good qulaity reel oil such as the daiwa reel oil in the little pen and make sure your roller bearing is treated on a regualr basis. I oil my reels down after every trip.

Thanks for the tip village idiotrofl . I used to do the same, but I've been a bit slack lately - not good.

The roller will seize if its anthing like the rollers used on the Sols and Kix.
You an upgrade to better rollers but just take care of the new toy and you probably won't ever have to.
