:p metho worms work bloody well in fact they are an EXCELLENT bait---------at times you snag more fish on them vs fresh-dont know why----jew LOVE them---along with bream and whiting-ive caught allsorts of reef fish on em as well--------and the good thing-they are real easy to do and if you keep em cool-you can use em over and over-this works for beach worms and rockworms--dont know about other varieties-but could be worth a go--

get a container -put live worms into it-------fill with metholated spirits to just above worms---------leave for about 3 mins-no more------pour out metho(you can recycle it about 3 times with this process-then chuk out)
put worms onto paper to dry off a bit-about 3 mins-put worms into freezer bag-put into freezer till you need em for bait(they will last 3 years)-----

HINT----break off heads of worms when using as bait------you will catch more fish-not sure why-;)

Do the fish have to be cleaned straight away to get rid of any metho taste or does it have no effect?

I often dip blackfish weed or cabbage in aniseed oil but if you don't clean the fish promptly then there will be a hint of licorice to your fillets.

the fish are not effected by them in any way------treat them, the same as if you used any other bait------:)

Hi Rockworm
I used to work at Dave's bait shop in Ballina. We did it a little different - just timing. Basically you'd swish the worms around with your fingers till you felt the slime coating come off - then they were done. Usually about 1minute.

I agree, they are very effective. Caught heaps of jew and whiting on them.

Never tried in salt water, but in fresh you'll get the odd bass...

I have a healthy population of African nightcrawler worms in my garden. They are a result of emptying all the left over bait worms into my front garden.

P.S

Chris, stay out of my front yard.:finger:

Welcome to Sydney Angler.

Thanks Iaianaianian. Most guys I know spell it as Ian, but I am all for being an individual. When I saw JOCOOL's avatar, I figured that as a fellow "big boned" fisho, that I would fit right in here. Once I get my boat cleaned up a bit and running, hopefully I may be able to find a crew on here that will share in costs etc, for many a fun day of fishing. The boat even has a subwoofer for all you fully sik Lebbo fisho's.

p.s. BCF at Auburn currently have 20% off on Live Fibre rods.

You missed to key word. "fellow big boned". I put my excessive body structure down to global warming. All this additional heat causes me to expand.
