The Cap'n and myself put in at Tunks at gentlemen's hour [6.45am] and noticed the Cool one's chariot already parked in a prime spot - though we didn't see him on the drink at all.

We tried and tried for squidies around near 40 baskets for at least an hour and only managed two candy sized ones on an orange/pearl jig [1.75]. They wouldn't touch anything else. Those two went into the live tank and were kept there most of the morning as we then went out to the waverider buoy where there were small dollies in attendance but had already wised up to lures being thrown at them.

After giving up on the dollies we put a spread of skirted lures out and headed off to Long Reef wide thence down to twelve mile and back in, not a scale to be seen anywhere but the water looked really good - cobalt blue, running from the north at about 3 to 4 knots and hitting 24.6 deg [promises of better things to come :D ]

Arriving back at the Quarantine marker I rigged the smaller of the two squid live and sent him down about midwater and the Cap'n put the bigger one a touch deeper.

No more than three minutes had gone by when my bait went off like a rocket and after a short tussle a just undersized kingie came aboard to be quickly sent back from whence he came - half an hour later and the other squid had not gone off, so we called it a day and headed back to Tunks before we got lobsterized by the now hot sun.

Good day out with relatively ordinary results, but at least it got me out of mowing the lawn this morning.
