View Full Version : Pros want back in Botany
Just read a report in todays Telegraph that a group of pros are lobbying to be allowed back into Boatny Bay since they are temporarily closed out of the Harbour/Parra River. The report describes it as "political suicide" if it were to be allowed, but pollies have done stupider things before, and they seem to hold Pros interests above Recs generally. If it does happen, I'm burning my fishing license...

well the pros have already decimated Pittwater & the Hawkesbury, so no surprise they're wanting to get back into Botany.
I'll burn my licence too if the gov't back down (& I don't even fish Botany).
It shows these mongrels up for the lowlifes they are. They'd ply their disgusting trade and strip every fishery bare if they had the chance.
The pro sector decimated the Kingfish fishery and they only stopped because they were forced to. Have no doubt that if the pro's had their way they'd be out there trapping Kingfish by the truckload tomorrow.
The fact that these environmental criminals are allowed to work in any estuary is a disgrace. The fact they operate in waterways in a city of 4 million people is insane.
The pro's should be banned immediately and permanently from all Sydney waterways.

All you guys that read this in the paper, should also read the follow-up article on page 18 by Malcom Holland. He talks about his disgust of the notion that the pro's want in to Botany. He also states some examples of how other harbours around the world, namely New York and Florida, have faired after banning all pro fishing within 3 miles of the coast.
I only wish the pollies would read it!

As an off shoot has anyone seen the size of the wild trout and bream that roam the estuarys down in tassie?
the reasons for such large fish is that pro's have been band from the estuarys. If only Sydney and all of NSW took this as an example.
Botany is not even really back on its feet yet. I doubt the pros will be able to make it back in there, even though we have a slimy government, I just have a feeling that they know what will happen if they let them back!
If only we could somehow link the dioxin levels in Sydney Harbour to Pro's then they would be banned for life:D
Also there is no point banning them to 3 mile off shore as they will only rape the inshore and offshore fishery.
Cheers
Lee
All so we can export our best wild fish overseas . . . .
While this Government has stuffed-up just about everything possible, I tend to agree that even these peanuts could not be so stupid to let them back in.
In a bizarre way I almost hope they do try to let them back. It act as a call to action for the silent majority. Their proposal has already earned them a lambasting in yesterdays Telegraph editorial. The pro's being exposed for what they are in the news is fantastic.

I think it would be political suicide to let them back intom the bay, but nothing would suprise me form this government.
I think Frank has had the best idea in demanding a refund on fishing lisences if it even looks as though they will allow them back in.
The only way to get any notice from the pollies is to hit em in the hip pocket. Problem is they would only go and introduce a tax on something else to replace it.
Good news in todays Tele - the Botany Bay plan has been nixed apparently, and currently MacDonald is pushing for a buyout of all pros from the Harbour! This is starting to look very promising to C&R fishos - Pros out of the Harbour, and a tightening on bag limits due to the dioxin levels - imagine a bag limit of two fish of any species per person, along with no Pros, and the much better water quality that the Harbour now has (despite dioxins in the bottom sediment), in a couple of years time the Harbour would be absolutely teeming with fish...
Let's get a testing kit and find some Dioxins in The Hawkesbury!!!!

So I heard on the news that the Pro's will be bought out of the Harbour with every licence being purchased.
Do you think these guys will pursue other licences and keep fishing but in another waterway or will they dissapear ?
I would hate to see them turn up in the Hawkesbury.

Grant,
have a look at this -

Seems Mr McDonald doesn't want them turning up the Hawkesbury either.

Good, either do I !
Good to see as well that the pro's licenced in both the Harbour and the Hawkesbury will be bought out too which means there will be less pro's in the Hawkesbury as a result. Thats the way I read it anyway.
Macdonald says he didnt want more pressure on the Hawkesbury if they only had their Harbour licence bought instead of the all their licences.
Smarted thing i think he's done. Its certainly a step in the right direction.
