View Full Version : Cundle III - The Fun Continues
The Sydney Angler committee and the Cundle Motel are thrilled to announce the third bi-annual Cundle Weekend. The trip is scheduled for the weekend of February 29th - March 2nd. This is prime fishing season, the same time of year we had the legendary "Marlin Day".
We are giving plenty of notice so as to allow everyone to save their pennies and get approval from the 'social coordinator'. No excuses this time lads! Our goal is to fill the motel and based on the growth in numbers for the last trip I reckon we'll do it.
I'm sure you've all read the reports from the last two Cundle weekends and I cannot emphasize enough just what a fantastic time it is. There's great mateship, great fishing, plenty of laughs and Richard and Bec look after us like kings.
This time around we've added a couple of enhancements:
1) On Friday we have a pub session for a change in scenery at the Airport Hotel. A courtesy bus is provided so we don't have to worry about the breathalyser.
2) Dinner on the Friday night is a gourmet BBQ outside by the pool.
3) This year we have camping available which provides a more affordable option.
The Singstar competition is back with a vengeance and MarkD aka Bono will be defending his title.
On the fishing front there is the magnificent Manning River as well as access to incredible offshore grounds from nearby Crowdy Head. Non boaters will have no problem securing a decky spot.
Remember Cundle is just three hours away and it's divided road nearly all the way making it an easy drive.

Hey Pocus
There is a choice mate
The Manning river is a delta system and goes for miles and you can launch at Crowdy Head and straight away you are virtually offshore
Check these

And if you read the first one Iain hooked onto Marlin within 1 K of Crowdy Head

Thanks for the info, this makes it much clearer. I still think I will take my boat so I can fish in the Manning River ( perhaps join a competition or two ), but I will still put my hand up as deckie, as I would love to go offshore fishing, but I don't know if my rig is suitable for Marlin fishing, but would love to have a go at catching some nice Snapper, or even Tuna

Hey anglers,
Just looking into the details of the weekend. Its nice to see you guys are keeping the fishing time in proper proportion to the drinking. 23 hours plus any drinks on the boat to 7 hours fishing by my count.
Never been to Coffs Harbour before. How many of the wives are going? The only attraction I could find online was the Big Banana not sure if that is going to keep the wife adequately entertained for 3 days. What about kids? If we come I have to decide whether to drop them off at the kennel.
I only have the punt so I guess i am in a similar situation to Pocus. Haven't read much about the inshore action of Coffs seems like offshore is really why you go. Is the punt a waste of time or should i just go to the fish and chip shop for my competition entries?

Whoops. I am American we're not known for being great at geography. We can drop the kids off at Terrigal with the in-laws on the way. If there a were bunch of kids going then they might have fun coming. Just working on angles to get a go ahead from her.

Walter,
It looks like Mrs Pocus is coming along so by all means bring Mrs Walter.
I promise to keep my pants on this time!
Yes the offshore fishing is awesome but don't take that to mean the river fishing isn't. Definitely bring your boat mate - there's a magnificent river to explore and some good fishing to be had.
As for the tin lids - If you want to bring them Richard had family rooms.

Hi Walter,
Yes we have Family Suites with separate rooms, DVD player, CD Player and TV. We can try to organise something for the kids if we have enough coming of course. As for the wives again if we have a few coming we can organise a tour around the Manning Valley with lunch at a Pub or Tea House.
The Manning Valley offers quite a bit of sightseeing. Google it.:Tumb up:

I got the go ahead to go to Cundle from the wife. She unfortunately isn't going to make it because the in-laws are going on holiday (from retirement) during that week. Our twerps are only 5 and 7 so she figures that she will be stuck in the room with them while all of the fun stuff is going on. She was actually a bit disappointed.
Does anybody need a deckhand? Could chip in for fuel cost or such.

There is a large flat area at the back of the Motel that Richard is going to use and he was going to shut down two rooms depending on the number of campers for showers etc
Give Richard a call Tim 6553 9709 or click on the banner
Boppa
You can park your car and boat right next to where your tent is Tim. As bopp says, Richard is going to allocate a room/s if we have campers so you'll have amenities to use.
Those staying in rooms, we park the boats immediately outside the front door to our rooms (se my video from the last trip!).
Thanks guys. I'll get back to you shortly:D

Hey guys,
As Tim mentioned I'm coming with him to the Cundle III trip. Sadly this is my first post on Sydney Angler, although I have been reading the reports on it for some time.
Thought I'd say a quick G'day before we arrive. I can't wait to get up there. I'm not much of a fisherman (hence my severe lack of posts) but I do love it....and beer. So from all reports it looks like I'm going to the right place.
Hopefully I'll break my poor fishing record with a nice big Marlin on the weekend!!!!
Peace out

Lets talk more about this. I can't wait, so talking about it is a great way to fill the time in between now and next Friday.
I know that snapper are just one of the reef fish on offer up that way. What else is there? Do they get warmer water species around there or is it still a bit too far south? You know, fish like red emperor, sweetlip, etc.
If I was anymore excited I'd lose a load in my underpants.
They definitely get Pearlies up there. I'm sure Cobes, Macks etc would be loitering around bait schools.

I'm with the Davidson brigade so I have run into quite a few of your guys. Bugger if I can remember all of the names. Met about 200 people in the past month or so besides all of the course stuff!
I have a feeling we might be at your brigade tomorrow for some rope and ladder work. Not positive though.

I've got some bad news. Unfortunately due to family committments, my wife & I can't go. My wife's cousing was involved in a bad motorcycle accident & is in hospital. My wife is his only family & we need to keep an eye on him.
We are really sorry as we were really looking forward to the comp. Hope you guys have a great time & catch plenty of fish. I'll make sure I put some of my Hocus Pocus magic spell on you so that you all come home with a great catch.
We are, however, looking forward to going next year.

Thanks for all your concern. He has approx 40 broken bones, 1 broken leg, 2 broken arms, a couple of broken ribs & the list goes on.
I doubt he has learnt his lesson though!

Hello all,
I was out at Harrington yesterday working & took the opportunity to have a look at the ocean. In the morn it was quite calm but swell was up. Comfortable enough though. In the arvo it was a blow out. Early start me thinks. Light enough to launch at Crowdy by 6am if not too dusty from previous night. Gutsy are you on the THE BROWN HORNET?
Will be a great morning Saturday.

Good research Matty. Fingers crossed.
The forecast for Saturday is looking yuck but you never know your luck.
We'll have fun whatever happens.

I know my luck when it comes to bad weather, and it's not very good.
I just changed our booking from camping to motel accomodation, so atleast we'll be out of the weather for some of the time!

Yesterday I was also up around Kimbriki near Wingham. The Manning up there is looking beautiful with clean water and as I was informed by a local resident full of bass. Perhaps throwing in a flick rod and a couple of lures/plastics in may be a good idea. There is a top spot to park the car and wander up or down the river. Very good access. Could also go for a beach fish around Manning Point? Plenty of options.

At what time are you expecting to go to the Pub? Weather check as of 2.59 pm. Pissing down, severe thunderstorm warning just broadcast. Might be Pub day Sat as well.
I'll be there at around 12:30 - 1pm.
I'm contemplating leaving the boat at home - That will guarentee smooth weather!
Boppa caught a mighty Snapper this morning off Crowdy.
