Seeking expressions of intrest as to who would be able to go off-shore in tandem with me, and any other members that have boast.

The idea would be to go out in a group, for those like me, that have never had the opportunity to go further afield due to lack of experience. It will give the boat owners a chance to get out in relative saftey in a group situation.

Dates would be determined at a later time, but I'm thinking perhaps early to mid January? Even a mid-week day depending on everyones work commitments.

Ideas?

Thats a start Bopp. Have you been outside in your boat before? I was hoping to get a couple of boats that have experience so that they can tell us if we are doing something wrong!:(

I might be up for it too fellas, however I'll have to tank test the boat first to see if she's up for it as it hasn't been wet for a long time. At least in a group, if she blows seals [no joke intended] I can scuttle her and still get a ride back in :)

Ahhhmm! Joe, How far out were you thinking of going ???? [weather dependant of course!]

I might even get Flyby out for a run before someone buys her Joe.

We might need an idea of distance and destination, I'll need to work out the fuel load!!!

Get a date up and if im not working and have no other commitments then i'll TRY and get out!!

A group is heaps better then going out alone, when im out i always wonder about "what ifs"

If we were to go out from Sydney, then I was thinking of getting to the Wave Riders, which from memory are only about 10 kay out.

I can probably get my mate to come out in his big plate boat. Just give me some notice on the date and we should be able to arrange it. if we can then there is a definate spot for you Andrew.

Cheers

Sounds interesting. I'll have a go if the weathers decent and I'm still on holidays. Hope you do it before the 16th though Joe. I hope you intend to go to a fishing destination of sorts. Don't want all that anxiety  of getting out there to go to waste. :D

I think, that if we are going to have a few boats, then perhaps Wave Riders out of Sydney will be a good option. Not too far out And still with a chance and some fish!

Any ideas as to destinations?

jOE dumb question do you take extra fuel when you go out there as My girl has a 60 litre tank but is it enough to get back to Gladesville or should Itake a jerrie :o

JOCOOL

Seeing as we both haven't been out wide previously, I would be taking a jerry and keeping a close eye on my fuel gauge!

guys I reckon it is still a bit early for them, but there could be a few around. I wouldn't waste my time heading out there unless I knew the dollies were on. the FAD isn't that great anyway, most of the dollies are tiny arse things that are only worth catching on the bream gear. thing is the bigger dollies aren't the easiest of fish to target. Try and find some traps on broken bay wide, they normally prodcue better and keep changing tactics, those dollies wise up pretty quick and if there are already 20 plus boats on the FAD - you're probably in for a crap day.

Early Tuesday morning is looking the best so far. Only a 5kn Noreaster and a dropping swell according to Seabreeze.

Rest of the week looks pretty shite so far.

I'll check...But of the top of my head...
2 Litres of water per person
PFD1 for each person
compass
radio
chart of area
bailing bucket on a lanyard
offshore flares
sounding device (horn or whistle)
CLICK HERE (http://www.maritime.nsw.gov.au/safetyequipment.html#openwat) to go to the NSW Maritime page that shows you all the required safety gear. Note tha some items such as EPIRB are recommended but NOT compulsory.

I'll have to pull out of this one Joe - I had hoped to get my boat back into the water last week to make sure everything was in order but the missus had other ideas :( . No way would I take an untested boat that far wide.

Hopefully next time around.

To bad George.:( Someone with your level of experience would have been in-valuable to us noobs that have never ventured wide in our own boats.

I know this is not ideal, as he is in Bossley Park, but is this any good to you?

Dave, my rod building mate also wants to join us, but unfortunately doesnt have a car for the day to tow his boat. If you are keen to get out there, and have the means to tow his boat, then let me know and I will tee it all up.:D

I'll have to see what pans out Joe, though at this stage it is unlikely. The remote control unit is making noises she has us lined up for things on Tuesday, though who knows

How friggin warm is it - just checked the outdoor thermometer [1340hrs] and it tells me it is 45 deg in the shade [113 F]

Correct once again Joe! I'm on leave ATM and I figure if I leave it turned off they won't bother me :D cause the missus spends that much time on the landline no one can get through there either

Edit: Tad rude of me not to turn them new fangled devices on eh! - sending you a PM Joe!
