did a bit of reading on them
they are a lot more money than the others ie : gramin and Lowarance etc
are they much better

I think they are better for a couple of reasons.
They are digital units. In other words, they digitally process the signal return and take out all the crap. The only other comparable unit is the Raymarine.
They have a great resolution.
The screen is vertically orientated to better show the water column you are looking at. Having a screen that is wider than it is long compresses the image too much I think.
They are relatively easy to use once you have worked out the basic functions.
And they look spiffy!:cheekybugger:
